Het tafereel voltrekt zich aan een kiezelstrand, aan zee. De visser wordt omringd door zeemeeuwen die hopen dat er voor hen nog een maaltje vis afvalt. Door de meeuwen rondom de visser ontstaat bijna iets van een kader waarbinnen de visser mooi naar voren komt en daarmee de aandacht trekt.
